On The Airwaves

Across the country, BBC Local Radio has helped share the story of how sport, prayer, reflection, and Christian values can work together to shape school culture in meaningful and lasting ways.

Since founding Project Touchline, Chris Andrew has appeared on many BBC Local Radio stations discussing the vision behind the programme, its growing impact in Church schools, and the deeper philosophy of “values first, sport second.”

On air, Chris Andrew has spoken about how Project Touchline seeks to help children experience “life in all its fullness” (John 10:10) through a rhythm of:

  • Scripture-rooted Collective Worship
  • Values-based sport and PE
  • Prayer and reflection
  • Lunchtime Prayer Clubs
  • Relationship-centred culture building

Rather than teaching values only through classroom discussion, Project Touchline helps children experience values through teamwork, encouragement, forgiveness, resilience, honesty and compassion in action.

The broadcasts have explored how schools across England and Wales are using the programme to strengthen Christian vision, support wellbeing, encourage spiritual reflection, and create calmer, more connected school communities.

One featured interview on BBC Radio Oxford highlighted Project Touchline’s work at Aston and Cote CE Primary School in Oxfordshire. During the programme, children and teachers spoke about their experiences of worship, prayer clubs, and learning to live out school values through sport and everyday relationships.

The conversation explored how simple moments on the sports field can become opportunities for:

  • encouragement after mistakes,
  • forgiveness after disagreement,
  • resilience after setbacks,
  • and respect within competition.

BBC Local Radio has provided an important platform for conversations around:

  • children’s wellbeing,
  • Christian distinctiveness,
  • values-based education,
  • spiritual development,
  • and the role of sport in shaping character and community.

As the programme has expanded into more than 150 schools, these interviews have helped connect listeners with stories from schools, teachers, clergy, children and communities experiencing the impact of Project Touchline firsthand.
